ABOUT

FACE THE TRUTH

THE JEFF BECK GROUP TRIBUTE PROJECT

The band broke up on the eve of Woodstock and thus their electric live show and brilliant musicality was never captured on film in it's prime. They were one of only 2 bands on the final WOODSTOCK BILL to not perform.  (Iron Butterfly got stuck at the airport.)

 - About the project -

FACE THE TRUTH is a ROCUMENTARY film asking the age old question... WHAT IF?

And in this case it is specifically...

WHAT IF THE JEFF BECK GROUP PLAYED WOODSTOCK?

In 1967 Jeff Beck had assembled a group of future famous musicians.: ROD STEWART on Vocals, RON WOOD on bass, NICKY HOPKINS on Keys and, AYNSLEY DUNBAR on drums.

By 68-69 The JEFF BECK GROUP was not only gaining recognition for their vitruosity as players and Rod Stewart's talent as a singer but also for producing 2 ground breaking albums in back to back years where Jeff Beck's vision for a new heavy blues sound which began to break into the beginning of Heavy Metal and acted like a blue print for bands to come such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.

The songs from TRUTH and BECKOLA stand on their own artistic merit but they are fairly lost to time as the albums were not cemented into rock history either by the Woodstock film or the original artists themselves who all went into completely different directions.  Nicky Hopkins famous quote about losing one of musics great bands came true.

"I fear that we've lost one of the greatest bands in music history."
- Nicky Hopkins 1969 - Upon hearing the break up of the JEFF BECK GROUP before Woodstock.
Each member would go on to have individual rock star careers:
  • Beck became a jazz-fuzion guitar instrumentalist virtuoso.
  • Rod Stewart went to the FACES and then solo as one of the biggest pop star vocalists ever.
  • Ron Wood left an impressive Bass rep for guitar duties with the Faces then Rolling Stones.
  • Nicky Hopkins also took work with the Stones then Quick Silver.
  • Aynsley Dunbar would become part of Frank Zappa's Mothers then Journey.

What would've happened if they stayed together for one more show? What would it have sounded and looked like LIVE on stage? How would those great songs be preserved in music history?
